CCS Student Wins College Scholarship in State Oratorical Contest!

CCS student Ben Tefera won a $2500 college scholarship from the Optimist Oratorical Contest! Crossings had nine students advance to the Optimist State Finals and Ben won! Congratulations to all CCS students for representing us so well. Seniors Cade Nelson and Elizabeth Soo took second place in the boy’s and girl’s division respectively.

Diapers, Formula, Squeezable Baby Food, and Pacifiers are being collected at the US to deliver at 1pm to 1st Baptist Church in Moore. Items may be brought tomorrow as well.

MS Students make South America Cookie Maps

The 6th grade students have been studying about the physical features of South America. At the close of this unit they made a giant cookie map. The students labeled the Amazon River, Andes Mountains, Guiana and Brazilian Highlands, Atacama Desert, Rain Forest, and Rio Negro.

Thanks to all the parents who sent the goodies. A good time was had by all!

Meacham Places 5th in State at OSSAA 4A State Tennis Meet

Crossings’ sophomore, Lucas Meacham, opened the 4A state tennis tournament winning in straight sets to advance to the quarter-finals where he suffered his only setback. He then proceeded to win his remaining three matches to finish fifth in the state in #1 boys singles. This is the second year Meacham has advanced to the state tournament.

6th Grade Social a Success

Sunday’s 6th grade skating social was lots of fun! Students are already talking about getting a group together at Skate Galaxy this summer to escape the heat.

OAAC High School Tournament of Champions Results

This past weekend was the 2013 OAAC High School Tournament of Champions. In order to compete, students had to have placed at a local tournament. However, unlike local tournaments, there are no class divisions at this state-wide tournament so placing is a significant accomplishment. The following Crossings students placed at this HSTOC:

Chris Wang – 1st in Trigonometry, World History and Vocabulary, 3rd in Computer Science
Shelby Wilkinson – 1st in Biology II and 3rd in Anatomy & Physiology Derek Richards – 2nd in 4th Yr Math and Computer Applications, 3rd in Calculus Rebecca Soo – 2nd in World Languages II
Abigail Stewart – 3rd in Chemistry

Also competing and representing Crossings well were Dylan Dennis, Carter Loomis, Ben Loper, Caleb Philliber, Avery Smith, Brett Szymanski and Grant Wilkinson.

Girl’s Track Team Wins OSSAA State Championship!

The CCS Girl’s Track team won the Class A State Championship at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma. This was the culmination of much hard work, prayer, and dedication this season. Congratulations to these girls and to Coach MacDonald in her first year at CCS, and Coaches Field and Gadd! State qualifiers include Cameron Shivers, Shannon Ashworth, Julia Sauer, Kaylin Moore, and Chandler Wooten. Freshman Conner Davis finished eighth in the pole vault for the boys team.

Here are the final results:

100 meter dash – Julia Sauer (5th Place)
200 meter dash – Cameron Shivers (1st Place), Julia Sauer (4th Place)
400 meter dash – Cameron Shivers (1st Place)
400 meter relay – Cameron Shivers, Shannon Ashworth, Julia Sauer, Kaylin Moore (1st Place)
800 meter relay – Cameron Shivers, Shannon Ashworth, Julia Sauer, Kaylin Moore (1st Place)
100 meter hurdles – Kaylin Moore (4th Place)
Long Jump – Kaylin Moore (3rd Place)

Nine CCS Students Advance to State Oratorical Contest

The Upper School Speech and Drama program is happy to announce that CCS will have nine students competing at the state level Oklahoma Optimist Oratorical contest. The event to be held at 9:00 am, Saturday, May 18 at Rose State College. Each student won a club level competition to advance to the state level. Students will compete for a boy’s and a girl’s $2500.00 college scholarship. We wish them all success.

Congratulations to Christian Bayley, Christian Osterhout, Cade Nelson, Ben Tefera, Ali Raftery, Chloe Sullivan, Brooke Allen, Elizabeth Soo and Devyn Dennis. We know they will represent CCS honorably.
